As we reported at the end of last year, PLO legend Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies was one of 16 VIP contestants to take part in the Finnish version of  Celebrity Survivor which was filmed in the Phillipines last summer. The series only began broadcasting last month and with the series now at the halfway stage Ilari is still in and doing well courtesey of his very unique strategy!

With seven out of the 13 episodes having been broadcast on Finnish TV station Nelonen, Ilari is still very much in the running, as is another Finnish celebrity who avid poker fans may recognise - namely Safa Chafak, who was crowned Miss Finland in 2012. Safa will be more recognisable to poker fans from her appearance on 'The Shark Cage' than her beauty pageant, however. Safa appeared on the show back in 2014 playing alongside the likes of Jean-Robert Bellande, Kara Scott, Ronnie Bardah and Eugene Katchalov. Safa made quite a splash during her appearance after sending Ronnie Bardah to the Shark Cage after pulling off a sick bluff against him with Ace high;

复古传奇sf The good news is that . The bad news (for non Finnish speakers) is that there is no English translation. You can still enjoy watching some of the tasks, however. We found a nice clip of a rather heavy looking Ilari competing in a physical challenge which you can see below:

Despite looking like a willing and able competitor in the above task (indeed during his pre-series interview Ilari said that one of his motivations for going on Survivor was to 'get fit'复古传奇sf, it would appear that by and large Ilari's strategy seems to involve doing practically nothing.

According to fellow Finnish poker pro Miikka "cannotletgo" Anttonen, Ilari's tactics aren't as crazy as they might sound;

As the producer of the series Mirko Baas said of Ilari's tactics in a (you can translate to English), "When you lose all races intentionally, no one sees you as a threat and will not even vote for you. One-on-one brilliant!"

Unfortunately the prize for the Celebrity version of the show isn't €1m but just €50,000 - just a few buy-ins for the stakes Sahamies plays online. Although Ilari doesn't play at the highest stakes too often these days he is still a regular at PokerStars where he plays as Ilari FIN, often playing at the $25/$50 and $50/$100 tables. In fact he posted a win yesterday - although the amount he won, $146, is a far cry from his glory days at Full Tilt where he regularly experiences daily wins/losses of between $500k-$1m and played pots as big as $700k. Also, Ilari currently holds the record for the biggest ever pot won at PokerStars - $421,821.
