The formal announcement of the 85-bracelet series was likely rushed by the WSOP after a staffer gaffe on Friday released the 31-event schedule of events that will be hosted on WSOP.com itself. Those events are scheduled one per day throughout the month of July复古传奇sf, and appeared briefly on the WSOP.com site, as a screen-grab shows (image at bottom).

Today’s announcement and accompanying schedule verifies that the 31-event sub-schedule to be hosted by WSOP.com was correct as accidentally leaked. Meanwhile, GGPoker has yet to officially announce its 54-bracelet-event portion of the schedule, which will begin on July 19 and continue on until September 6th.

“It wouldn’t be Summer without WSOP,” said Ty Stewart, Executive Director of the World Series of Poker. “While we are thrilled to be reopening our venues and optimistic about future offline events, we couldn’t be more excited about deepening our relationship with GGPoker and watching some history unfold online this summer.”

“It’s clear that GGPoker and the WSOP make a good pair,” said Steve Preiss, Head of Poker Operations for GGPoker. “We’re excited to create bracelet events that the worldwide poker community will embrace, as well as innovative programming with PokerGo.” PokerGo and parent company Poker Central will be one of the lead media outlets for the online-only series.

Undeclared amid the hoopla is whether this means the land-based form of the World Series of Poker will be cancelled in its entirety for 2020. The world’s largest live poker series, which runs annually in Las Vegas from late May to mid-July, had already been postponed to an indefinite time later in the fall. The announcement of the expanded online series, however, increases the likelihood that the live series won’t run at all. A normal WSOP full of densely packed players at hundreds of tables would likely run afoul of Nevada’s reopening rules for casinos as the global COVID-19 pandemic rolls on.

Of interest is that the 31-event portion of the 2020 Online WSOP will be available only to players physically located in Nevada or New Jersey. WSOP.com players in Delaware or other US states are not allowed to participate in the “domestic” portion of the series, nor are players from other countries. However, anecdotes and social-media posts indicate that many US and international players are already making hotel reservations in Nevada and New Jersey复古传奇sf during July. The plan for these players is to thus be present in one of the two states and then play online from their hotel rooms.

Meanwhile, GGPoker’s 54-event portion of the overall schedule will be available only to players in countries where GGPoker offers its services, and that expressly excludes the United States. The WSOP’s announcement notes that GGPoker does not accept US players, and “Any player discovered to be attempting to play from inside the US border will be deemed ineligible and prize money subject to forfeiture.”

The split nature of the schedule likely precludes the WSOP from offering a Player of the Year chase for the 2020 Online WSOP. The 2019 POY race ended in a mild controversy after a calculating error transferred the title from its initial apparent winner, Daniel Negreanu, on to the official winner, Australia’s Robert Campbell.
